RMIT is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to all. Our website aims to meet Level AA success criteria of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.

Known issues

RMIT home page:

• Keyboard users may have difficulties navigating the page, because link focus behaves inconsistently in different browsers and some content is only available on mouse hover.

Navigation

Our navigation menus provide clear and easy access to the site’s major content areas. The 'Skip to main content' link is available for people using text-only browsers such as screen readers. This link is at the top of the page and allows you to skip directly to the content without having to scroll past the site navigation and headers.

If using a keyboard, the "Tab" key lets you move between all links and form controls on a page and select using "Enter".

Standards compliance

RMIT’s website was built according to HyperText Markup Language (HTML) 4 Transitional specifications and conforms to WCAG 1.0 priority 1 checkpoints.

Layout is controlled by Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and has been written according to CSS 2.1 specifications. The site is still navigable for people who do not use CSS or graphical browsers.

Structured and meaningful HTML has been used to assist people accessing the site via non-visual means, such as users of screen reading software.

Transition to WCAG 2.0

RMIT is transitioning from WCAG 1.0 to 2.0 compliance in accordance with the Australian Government Web Accessibility National Transition Strategy and W3C WCAG 2.0.

Assistive technology

RMIT's website can be accessed through the use of assistive technologies that are compatible with WCAG 1.0 priority 1 checkpoints. Assistive technology, such as screen reading and magnification software, is available for use on RMIT computers. For further information contact the Disability Liaison Unit.
